On December 19, the stage curtains unveiled the 2026 Tsinghua University International Students and Scholars’ Gala Night at the New Tsinghua Xuetang. Once again, this annual tradition continues to highlight the rich cultural diversity at Tsinghua. The breathtaking performances encompassed more than 240 performers and volunteers across 27 different countries. Tonight brought together not just a mere audience, but unified dozens of cultures and nations under the universal languages of art, music, and dance. Beyond stage lights and stars, the performances shone with heritage and imagination.

The launch ceremony of the Chinese Alliance of Universities for Earth System Science (CAUESS) was held at Tsinghua University on December 8. Founding members include Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, Tianjin University, and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

Through the eyes of Tsinghua youths, the “Frontline Observations” series shares first-hand stories from international events that bring Tsinghua to the global stage, capturing the voices and reflections of youths as they engage with the challenges of our time.

On November 25 local time, Qiu Yong, secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, visited Ethiopia to attend the Forum on Science & Technology Cooperation and Sustainable Development in the Global South. During the visit, Tsinghua University signed memorandums of understanding with Addis Ababa University and Mekelle University, contributing Tsinghua’s strength to advancing the All-Weather Strategic Partnership between China and Ethiopia.

The 8th Beijing International Scholars Exchange Platform was recently held at the China National Archives of Publications and Culture (Central Repository). Over 50 international scholars from Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Beijing International Studies University participated in this immersive exploration of Chinese civilization.

May 25th marked a new beginning in the history ofTsinghua University as it inaugurated its first-ever African StudentAssociation – THUASA (Tsinghua University African Student Association).  The event for the first time ever united theinternational African student body in Tsinghua that includes over 110 enrolled students representing 27 African countriesand opened a platform for collaboration among these students and the wider bodyof the University.

We all knew it from the start- that one year will go by really quickly. As our cohort nears into the final parts of our year in Beijing, the nostalgia has begun as we think back on our time and memories here. Over the past few weeks, I am thankful to have had the chance to meet some of the scholars from the next incoming class and I must say I am impressed by your zeal and excitement and also a sense of connectedness even though our community is only beginning to grow. A couple of you have asked a lot of questions about how to make the most of your time in the coming year and the writer in me has decided to pen down some of the discussions that we had. The following piece details a few of the learnings that came from some of those discussions we had. Disclaimer that this only represents my own synthesis and reflections and that this is not meant to be prescriptive but rather to serve as lens and frames to think about.As with all things in life there is never one single template, for it’s up to each of us to thread the path most suited for us. With that in mind, here comes 5 little nuggets of reflection.
