During the IEEE Global Communications Conference 2025, the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) presented its annual awards. A research team from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University was awarded the 2025 IEEE ComSoc Stephen O. Rice Prize. The winning paper, “Channel estimation for extremely large-scale MIMO: Far-Field or near-field?”, was authored by Mingyao Cui, a master’s student enrolled in 2020, and his supervisor, Prof. Linglong Dai. Published in IEEE Transactions on Communications (IEEE TCOM) in April 2022, this work marks the first time in the award’s 50-year history that Tsinghua University has been honored as the lead institution.

The School of Life Sciences recently inaugurated the Center for Life Sciences and Artificial Intelligence. Wang Hongwei, vice president of Tsinghua University, presided over the event.

Tsinghua University School of Public Policy and Management (Tsinghua SPPM) convened its 2025 Global Advisory Board (GAB) Meeting on November 15. Focusing on the theme “Public Governance Towards 2030”, the GAB Meeting comprised an opening ceremony and closed-door meeting, adopting a hybrid online and offline format.

On December 12, Tsinghua University held the appointment ceremony for Professor Hu Ye. Dr. Hu, an internationally renowned expert in biomedical engineering, was appointed as the Zhaoyi Chair Professor. Li Luming, president of Tsinghua University, Wang Zhizhen, former vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, He Wei, general manager of GigaDevice Semiconductor Inc., and other guests attended the ceremony. Wang Hongwei, vice president of Tsinghua University, presided over the ceremony.

On the afternoon of December 27, Zhishan College, Schwarzman College and Zijing College, co-hosted the "Continental Fair" Global Food Festival and International Culture Market. The event was attended over 200 teachers and students from across the university.

An AI race car developed by Tsinghua University has conquered one of the world’s most demanding autonomous driving challenges, achieving a record-setting performance and claiming overall victory at the Hitch Open World AI Championships.

On the evening of December 17 (local time), Prof. Qiu Yong, Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, who is currently visiting Greece, engaged in exchanges with representatives from the Greek political, business, and academic sectors. He delivered a keynote speech focusing on "Cultural Inheritance and Mutual Learning Among Civilizations in the Era of Artificial Intelligence". The event was hosted by Mr. Evangelos E. Angelakos, former Mayor of Oinousses, Honorary Chairman of Angelakos S.A.

The 2026 Tsinghua University International Scholars New Year Reception, also the 11th Beijing International Scholars Exchange Platform event, was held at the New Tsinghua Xuetang on December 19. Professor Yang Bin, vice chancellor of Tsinghua University Council, and Professor Chen Deliang, foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, were present at the event. The reception gathered international scholars and their families from 14 schools and departments across Tsinghua, as well as representatives from partner institutions including Beijing Foreign Studies University, China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, Beijing Overseas Talents Center, and the International Department of Tsinghua University High School. Over 130 guests from 28 countries and regions came together to welcome the New Year in a festive atmosphere filled with cultural exchange.

On December 19, the stage curtains unveiled the 2026 Tsinghua University International Students and Scholars’ Gala Night at the New Tsinghua Xuetang. Once again, this annual tradition continues to highlight the rich cultural diversity at Tsinghua. The breathtaking performances encompassed more than 240 performers and volunteers across 27 different countries. Tonight brought together not just a mere audience, but unified dozens of cultures and nations under the universal languages of art, music, and dance. Beyond stage lights and stars, the performances shone with heritage and imagination.

From December 14 to 18 (local time), Qiu Yong, Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, visited France and Greece to advance educational and scientific cooperation as well as people-to-people exchanges between Tsinghua University and leading European universities and institutions. This visit contributed Tsinghua’s strength to the development of the China–EU comprehensive strategic partnership.

Tsinghua University President Li Luming visited Mexico and Brazil from December 2 to 6 (local time). In Mexico, he attended the 2025 Global MOOC and Online Education Conference. During the visit, he held meetings with representatives from leading local universities and officials from Chinese diplomatic missions, with the aim of deepening cultural exchanges and strengthening cooperation in higher education between China and the two countries.

Ten speakers from Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS), hailing from six countries, delivered talks centered on artificial intelligence+ (AI+), sustainable development, and ocean development at the recent TEDxTsinghuaSIGS event held on campus.

The International AI Cooperation and Governance Forum 2025 was recently held at the University of Melbourne, bringing together leading scholars, policymakers, industry executives, and representatives from various international organizations to discuss the role of global collaboration in shaping a safer, more inclusive AI future.

The launch ceremony of the Chinese Alliance of Universities for Earth System Science (CAUESS) was held at Tsinghua University on December 8. Founding members include Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, Tianjin University, and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

The 2025 Global MOOC and Online Education Conference, themed "Breaking Boundaries and Reshaping Futures: Open and Intelligent Global Education," was held at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) from December 2 to 4, local time. The opening ceremony was attended by Li Luming, president of Tsinghua University and chair of the board of the Global MOOC and Online Education Alliance; Patricia Dávila Aranda, general secretary of National Autonomous University of Mexico; and Asha Kanwar, chair of the UNESCO IITE Governing Board. Stefania Giannini, UNESCO assistant director-general for education, delivered a video address to the conference.
