​Tsinghua team wins 2025 IEEE ComSoC Stephen O. Rice Prize

During the IEEE Global Communications Conference 2025, the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) presented its annual awards. A research team from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University was awarded the 2025 IEEE ComSoc Stephen O. Rice Prize. The winning paper, “Channel estimation for extremely large-scale MIMO: Far-Field or near-field?”, was authored by Mingyao Cui, a master’s student enrolled in 2020, and his supervisor, Prof. Linglong Dai. Published in IEEE Transactions on Communications (IEEE TCOM) in April 2022, this work marks the first time in the award’s 50-year history that Tsinghua University has been honored as the lead institution.

On December 12, Tsinghua University held the appointment ceremony for Professor Hu Ye. Dr. Hu, an internationally renowned expert in biomedical engineering, was appointed as the Zhaoyi Chair Professor. Li Luming, president of Tsinghua University, Wang Zhizhen, former vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, He Wei, general manager of GigaDevice Semiconductor Inc., and other guests attended the ceremony. Wang Hongwei, vice president of Tsinghua University, presided over the ceremony.

International Scholars New Year Reception held

The 2026 Tsinghua University International Scholars New Year Reception, also the 11th Beijing International Scholars Exchange Platform event, was held at the New Tsinghua Xuetang on December 19. Professor Yang Bin, vice chancellor of Tsinghua University Council, and Professor Chen Deliang, foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, were present at the event. The reception gathered international scholars and their families from 14 schools and departments across Tsinghua, as well as representatives from partner institutions including Beijing Foreign Studies University, China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, Beijing Overseas Talents Center, and the International Department of Tsinghua University High School. Over 130 guests from 28 countries and regions came together to welcome the New Year in a festive atmosphere filled with cultural exchange.

On December 19, the stage curtains unveiled the 2026 Tsinghua University International Students and Scholars’ Gala Night at the New Tsinghua Xuetang.
