Oxford chemist Carol Robinson appointed honorary professor at Tsinghua

On November 18, Carol Robinson, Dr. Lee’s Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford and first Director of the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, was appointed an honorary professor at Tsinghua University. She also delivered the 263rd lecture in the Tsinghua Global Vision Lecture Series, titled Cell Surface Receptors and Transporters- New Insights from Mass Spectrometry. Wang Hongwei, vice president of Tsinghua University, attended the event and presented a letter of appointment to Carol Robinson.
Tsinghua shines at Beijing Science and Technology Awards
At the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Awards Conference, convened by the Beijing municipal government on November 7, Tsinghua University, as the leading institution, claimed nine first prizes and 11 second prizes. Additionally, three of its faculty members were honored with the 2024 Zhongguancun Award for Outstanding Youth. The number of first prizes led by Tsinghua University ranked first among all award-applying institutions.

Ban Ki-moon, chairman of Boao for Asia and former secretary-general of the United Nations; Li Luming, president of Tsinghua University; Shen Hongbing, vice-minister of the National Health Commission and administrator of the National Administration of Disease Prevention and Control; Xiong Shaoyuan, deputy administrator of China Meteorological Administration; Saia Ma’u Piukala, WHO regional director for the Western Pacific; Amakobe Sande, UNICEF representative to China and Margaret Chan, founding dean of Vanke School of Public Health at Tsinghua University and former director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), attended the opening ceremony. On the morning of October 18th, the opening ceremony of the Second International Academic Forum on "Paleography and Chinese Civilization" was held at Tsinghua University. Qiu Yong, Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee; Liu Peijun, Director-General of the Department of Language Information Management under the Ministry of Education; Wu Zhenwu, President of the Chinese Society of Paleography and former Vice President of Jilin University; and Dirk Meyer, Fellow of The Queen's College, Oxford University, and Director of the Centre for Manuscript and Text Culture, attended and delivered speeches at the opening ceremony, presided over by Wu Huaqiang, Tsinghua Vice President.

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) has recently announced its 2025 Honors Recipients. Professor Long Di from the Department of Hydraulic Engineering, Tsinghua University, has been selected to receive the Polubarinova-Kochina Hydrologic Sciences Mid-Career Award in recognition of his significant contributions to hydrologic science and his sustained academic leadership.

The School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University (Tsinghua SEM) and INSEAD jointly announced the extension of their strategic partnership for another five years in Beijing on May 22. It marks almost two decades of success for the Tsinghua-INSEAD Executive MBA (TIEMBA) program. The renewed agreement was signed by Bai Chong-En, dean of Tsinghua SEM, and Francisco Veloso, dean of INSEAD. The ceremony was joined by faculty, staff, students, and alumni from both schools. Professor Xue Jian, senior associate dean of Tsinghua SEM, said, “Moving forward, TIEMBA will remain a global East-West platform, empowering leaders to navigate complexity, drive innovation, and create impact in this highly interconnected world.”

Professor Li Daokui delivers keynote speech at Tanner Founder’s Lectures at Cambridge University

On March 17th, Li Daokui, Professor of Tsinghua University School of Social Sciences, Director of the Tsinghua University Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking (ACCEPT) and Co-President of the Society for the Analysis of Government and Economics (SAGE), delivered a keynote speech at the Clare Hall Tanner and Tanner Founder’s Lecture 2025, at Cambridge University. The topic of the speech was "China's world view and implications for the future of the world". Based on his new book published by W.W. Norton & Company, China's World View, Professor Li Daokui explored the inner working of China's social and economic system, China's basic principles in handling international affairs, the sustainability of China's development, and the prospect of an emerging multipolar world. He called on the international community, including western countries, to proactively recognize China's development and i and seize the opportunities brought about by China's development.
